Heroes of the Storm: The Tools of the Troll

post-title-004

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!

Three weeks ago, Blizzard added a surprise entry to the Heroes of the Storm roster. It was a surprise because most new heroes spend some time on the Public Test Realm (PTR) before being released. I’m pretty sure this one went straight to the live servers. The newly added hero is Zul’Jin, a ranged assassin with an unlimited supply of axes at his disposal. As excited as I am for this character, I think his kit could use some tweaking.

Heroes of the Storm: Auriel and Energy

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!

I feel like my post a few weeks ago, Traits that Dia-blow, may have had an air of saltiness to it. So, to clear the air, I shall discuss something actually pretty sweet. Auriel, a new Support hero representing the Diablo universe, was released on the Tuesday prior to my previous post. She has a unique kit, and an even more unique way of providing healing to her allies. In today’s post, I shall discuss her core support mechanic, and discuss an idea I have for stripping mana from several members of the Heroes of the Storm roster.

Heroes of the Storm: Traits that Dia-blow

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!

Heroes of the Storm has seen a slew of new hero additions and talent changes in the past few months. I have been playing around with different heroes (old and new) in Try Mode to test out builds, and to get a sense of their kits. While several heroes have some interesting new options, there are others that still possess questionable abilities or talents. Gul’dan, the most recent hero added to the game, has only one viable ultimate because his other option lacks consistent value and rains down disappointment upon the battlefield. For today’s post, I want to discuss two heroes who possess traits that still feel out of place or oddly designed, and attempt to create solutions to the issues I perceive.

Heroes of the Storm: Age of Ultra Lame Talents

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!

The last few updates to Heroes of the Storm have brought with them major talent changes to various heroes. A few heroes that have remained relatively unchanged since the beta, like Nova, have seen drastic changes in their talent options. Amidst these changes, I have observed a difference in the way talents are being designed. In some cases, potent gameplay options are being replaced with entirely inconsequential talents, and this design is becoming more widespread (albeit slowly). In today’s post, I will discuss the observations that are leading me to believe that Heroes of the Storm is moving into an age of ultron ultra lame talents.

Paragon: Looks Kind of Boring

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!

I just finished watching a video released by MMOBomb.com featuring some gameplay from Paragon, a game currently in development. I was left with mixed feelings about it, and I wanted to discuss them here. The footage I saw didn’t get me excited for the game’s release, nor was I entirely put off by what I saw. I’m at that level where I think the game needs A LOT of work before the developers launch it. In today’s post, I want to discuss why I was left with the impression that Paragon looks kind of boring.

Build a Hero: WoW Warlock for HotS

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!

Heroes of the Storm has been releasing new characters at quite the rapid rate since going live (as in not in beta). I haven’t played it as much since it went live, but I have kept up with the updates primarily through videos on YouTube (see MFPallyTime). For this post, I thought it would be fun to do something creative. I want to create a concept for a new Hero based on a class I enjoyed when I played World of Warcraft. Today, let’s imagine what it would be like to play a Warlock in Heroes of the Storm.

Paladins: Hi-Rez’s New Arena Shooter

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!

Earlier in the week sometime last week, I came across an interesting new game that I had not heard of before. I believe I first stumbled across it on YouTube while watching some Overwatch gameplay. To my surprise, I was treated to footage of a game that, to the unobservant, could easily be mistaken for Overwatch. This game is an Arena Shooter being developed by Hi-Rez Studios, the company that brough SMITE to the MOBA scene, and it is called Paladins. Today, I will discuss a little bit of what I’ve learned about the game and, of course, sprinkle in my own thoughts.

Heroes of the Storm: Raynor… Is An Assassin?

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!

Last week, I wrote an editorial for MMOs.com about Heroes of the Storm and the things it gets right. In that same week, I logged into HotS and acquired some new daily quests. One of which was to play a few games as a StarCraft character. According to my profile, I had not played any character from the StarCraft universe until that point. The character I decided to play to complete this quest was Raynor, the Renegade Commander. He’s a fun character to play, but for being classified an “Assassin” he is constructed rather oddly. For today’s post, I will intermingle my experience playing the character with the aspects of his design I think works, the aspects of his design that seem awkward, and I’ll make some suggestions on how he could be changed.
